Advantages of brushless DC motors in industrial applications
Brushless DC motors have become increasingly popular in industrial applications in recent years because of their numerous advantages over brushed DC motors. Brushless DC motor manufacturers typically make motors for applications such as electronics, medical applications, computers, and automobiles. In the industrial engineering industry, brushless DC motors are often used in automation and manufacturing engineering applications to improve overall productivity and quality.

Because brushless DC motors can generate high torque with good speed response, they can be used in applications that require variable speed, such as pumps and fans. The motor achieves variable speed response by operating in an electromechanical system with rotor position feedback sensors and electronic motor controllers. It is therefore ideal for applications with constant torque loads such as cranes, extruders and conveyor belts. It is common for applications to stop while loading, but brushless DC motors produce high torque throughout their speed range.

 

And because of their low cost and versatility, motors are often used as extruder drives. They work by turning a screw that compresses the polymer material. Although the action appears to be a motor with precision, varying part density is avoided, thus guaranteeing precision. Incidentally, the motor provides high torque in its speed range with little short-term position error.

In addition to having no brushes, brushless DC motors also lack a mechanical commutator. A reduction in the number of parts means fewer parts to wear, damage, need to be replaced or need maintenance. Brushless DC motor manufacturers design motors that are more efficient, reliable and durable. Individual custom-made brushless DC motors even have a lifespan of 30,000 hours or more. Since the internal components of the motors are enclosed, they operate with less noise and electromagnetic interference. The enclosed design also makes the motor suitable for environments with grease, oil, dirt, dust and other debris.

In industrial applications, brushless DC motors are often used in variable speed, servo, drive and positioning applications where stable operation and precise motion control are critical. Common uses of brushless DC motors in industrial engineering are linear motors, servo motors, actuators for industrial robots, extruder drive motors, and feed drives for CNC machine tools.

Linear motors produce linear motion without a drivetrain, making them more responsive and accurate. Servo motors are used for precision motor control, positioning or mechanical displacement. Since the servo motor with brushless motor uses a closed loop system, the operation is tightly controlled and stable. Servo motors offer the advantages of high reliability, controllability, dynamic response and smooth torque generation, even when the motor load changes. A brushless DC servo motor has a stator, magnetic teeth, and an actuator with coil windings and permanent magnets.

In industrial robots, it can act as an actuator, moving mechanical joints to position tools in welding, painting and assembly applications. Brushless DC motors are the first choice for robotics applications due to their reliability, power density, compact size and ease of maintenance.

Machine tools use feeds and spindle drives. Feed drives are used as shaft drive motors. Spindle drives provide power and motion for milling, grinding and drilling operations. You will typically find brushless DC servo motors with electronic controllers in feed drives because of their high efficiency, good heat dissipation and low rotor inertia.
